SOUTH WALES EVENING POST CHILDREN'S BOOK REVIEW DEC 9-10

This week my children's book reviews include a stunning non fiction title about the ways of the wolf, a interactive nativity story, a tale about a young boy who tries to be Father Christmas and a young girl who time travels back to World War Two and befriends a sheepdog on a Welsh Farm.

    The Adventures Of Pop The Panda And Hector Bear In Space.

    It was a normal rainy evening and Pop the Panda and Hector Bear were sat in front the glowing, glazing fire, gulping down their favourite supper, a nice hot bowl of porridge. Pop the Panda and Hector Bear loved adventures but they ran out of ideas for their next one. They couldn’t think what to do next; until the following afternoon when they were eating space popper crisps and Hector Bear had an idea…

    They put there plan together and woke up at the crack of dawn to get ready. They found some old recycled boxes and upcycled them into a master piece; plus they even had time to sit down for a nice tasty cup of hot chocolate with a yummy plate of biscuits. Finally the time came. There was a meter long piece of rope leading up to three triangular cardboard fins and eventually an enormous rocket, with a small cockpit at the top which had lots of cool magic powers to help the rocket fly. It was time for their next adventure. OUTTA SPACE!

    Hector lit a match to start the engine thrust mechanism while Pop started the finale count down (10! 9! 8! 7! 6! 5! 4! 3! 2! 1!) BLAST OFF! They were on their way into deep space. Hector Bear, who was the smartest, told Pop that it would take 1 hour for the magic rocket to arrive at the moon.

    So they decided to start playing a game of Monopoly, when all of a sudden the rocket gave a huge shudder. Hector leapt to the cockpit as Pop ran to the window. The had been hit by a giant asteroid and were taken off course to a red looking planet; yet this wasn’t the worst of there problems, the were crash landing…
    Within second of the asteroid hitting them, they had entered the planet’s atmosphere and were on a crash course. They managed to parachute out just in time but as they reached the dead, deserted, surface, Hector could see that the rocket engine was broken. (They were stranded). They decided to open the refreshing ginger pop that the had brought with them, when all of a sudden a strange robotic vehicle showed up. Its name was written on the side, “Mars Rover” the Mars Rover was scanning Pop the Panda and Hector Bear so Pop the Panda pinched himself to check whether it was a dream or not. Meanwhile Hector Bear had an idea, if the Mars Rover was capable of rebooting the rocket thrust, they would be able to return to Earth.

    Hector and Pop asked the Mars Rover to help them reboot the engine thrust and when he was done, they all had some more delicious ginger pop and before they new it, Pop and Hector were sitting down eating some porridge and thinking about what adventures that they will have next.
